Want to learn a little about us and why we farm and share at markets?

Marcus Groffman and his family moved to this property in the autumn of 2007 and, due to a lifelong passion for gardening and the desire to eat good food that couldn’t be found in nearby stores, began to work the land the next spring. The garden expanded year by year—soon, excess food was being given to family and friends, and when even that wasn’t enough, delivered to a local food bank.

Upon retirement in early 2021, Marcus decided that the natural next step in expanding the garden would be to start selling produce. Working towards this goal, the garden became the subject of intense focus and development, and in 2023 was finally ready to become a commercial production. Currently, we sell at two farmers’ markets every week (seasonally) , as well as from the farm itself by appointment.

 OUR FUTURE

With the farm growing, Zack joined Marcus full-time in 2021, and together they put new ideas into practice, learning from successes as well as failures. They are in the long process of applying for organic certification and have expanded both orchard and gardens into spaces previously occupied by horses. In an effort to utilize what otherwise would be waste, they use manure from neighboring farms and material from landscape trimming as part of their composting plans. We have chickens that have lots of space, a couple of cats that help with rodents, and one supervisory German Shepherd who loves to help in the garden.

As a working farm there is a continuing need to adapt and change on a routine basis. Ultimately our desire is to share our bountiful produce with those seeking to know and understand the sources of their food. We welcome visits (by appointment) and are always happy to answer any of your questions when you see us at market.
